Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH â The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have signed right wing Ryan Murphy to an amateur tryout agreement, Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced on Thursday.
Murphy, 22, recently completed his senior season with the Boston College Eagles of Hockey East. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound native of Rumson, New Jersey, recorded 12 points (4-8=12) and 36 penalty minutes for the Eagles, who lost to the University of North Dakota, 6-3, in last weekend's NCAA East Regional. Selected by the Kings in the sixth-round (185th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Murphy collected 59 points (25-34=59) and 104 penalty minutes in 156 career games with the Eagles. He will wear jersey No. 17 for the Monarchs.
Monarchs Advance To The Postseason: The Monarchs are the first team from the Eastern Conference to secure a berth in the 2005 Calder Cup playoffs. They clinched a spot in the postseason for the fourth consecutive year with a 2-1, overtime win over the Portland Pirates on Saturday, March 26.
The Monarchs (45-18-4-3, 97 points) return to action when they host the Providence Bruins on Friday, April 1 at 7:35 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena. They enter Friday's contest with a five-point lead over the second place Hartford Wolf Pack (43-21-3-3, 92 points) in the race for the American Hockey League's Atlantic Division title.
With a win on Friday, the Monarchs will not only move closer to their first-ever division title, they'll also establish a new franchise record for points in a season. The Monarchs, with 97 points, have equaled their total points collected during the 2002-03 season.
Ticket Availability: Single seats in the Gold level and 850 seats in the Silver level remain for Friday's game against the Bruins.
Monarchs tickets are on sale now and may be purchased at the Verizon Wireless Arena box office. Individual tickets may also be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at (603) 868-7300, or by visiting Ticketmaster on-line at www.ticketmaster.com.
