PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League announced today that left wing Jon Sim has been named the Toyota Phantoms Player of the Month for March. Sim will receive his award in a pregame presentation on Friday, April 1 when the Phantoms host the Hershey Bears at the Wachovia Spectrum at 7:05 p.m.
Sim led the Phantoms in goals (15) and points (22) over 14 games in March and his +14 rating was tied for the team lead. The 27-year-old left wing registered five two-goal games and scored four game-winning goals over that span.
"Jon has been on the hottest streak in the AHL," said Phantoms head coach John Stevens. "He's done everything possible offensively and has been committed all over the ice. Jon is responsible for our success this season."
In just 54 games with Philadelphia this season, Sim leads the team in goals (32), game-winning goals (10), shorthanded goals (3) and plus/minus (+25), while ranking second in points (51). He was acquired on loan from the Utah Grizzlies on Nov. 14, 2004 in exchange for Peter White.
The Toyota Phantoms Player of the Month award is in its second season, as a Phantoms player will be honored each month through the end of the regular season for his contributions on the ice. Tony Voce was the winner for the month of October; November's winner was Antero Niittymaki; Patrick Sharp won the award for December; Randy Jones was honored in January and R.J. Umberger was the winner for February.
