Connecticut Whale News Release

HARTFORD, March 31, 2005: Wolf Pack coach Ryan McGill and former Hartford Whaler Ulf Samuelsson will join local media for a whole new hockey experience this Saturday. The two former NHL'ers will participate in a special sled hockey game that will take place before the Wolf Pack face the Portland Pirates. Doors open at 3:30 p.m., with face off at 4:00 p.m. The game is open to the public and donations are appreciated. The money raised will go towards a tournament trip to Canada for "Chariots of Hope", Connecticut's sled hockey team.

Chariots of Hope will play local media celebrities including Brad Drazen and Brian Schactman of NBC, Bob Rumbold of FOX, Damon Scott, Kevin Johnston, Bob Joyce, and Mark "The Shark" from WTIC and Donny Marshall of ESPN. The Hartford Courant's Bruce Berlet will coach the team.

The Hartford Wolf Pack Community Foundation is a major supporter of the Chariots of Hope team and has purchased 20 titanium sleds for the club. Sled hockey was developed to meet the special recreation needs of disabled athletes. It uses the same rules as conventional hockey, but the players are strapped into a sled-like chair on two blades. Instead of one hockey stick, players use two short sticks with metal picks on one end, and a blade on the other to get around the ice and control the puck.

It is also "college colors" night in honor of the NCAA Final Four. Fans who wear college gear to the game will receive $4 off an adult ticket in the Red or Blue Wolf seating areas. The sled hockey game goes from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., and the Wolf Pack game versus Portland starts at 7:05 p.m.

The AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack hockey club is part of Madison Square Garden LP. Cablevision Systems Corporation owns a controlling interest in MSG LP, which also includes the New York Rangers (NHL), New York Knicks (NBA), the New York Liberty (WNBA), the MSG Network, Fox Sports Net and the Madison Square Garden arena complex.
