Monarchs Sign Forbort to ATO

MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have signed defenseman Derek Forbort to an Amateur Tryout Agreement, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today.

Forbort, 21, was selected by the Kings in the first round (15th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. A native of Duluth, Minnesota, Forbort has played the last three seasons for the University of North Dakota. This season, the 6-foot-5, 207-pound defenseman played in 42 games and recorded 17 points (4-1317) and 22 penalty minutes. In 2011-12 he played in 35 games (13 points) and in 2010-11 he played in 38 games (15 points). Forbort also has experience with the U.S. National Development Team and the U.S. National Under-18 Team. For the U.S., Forbort earned a bronze medal at the 2011 World Junior Championships and a gold medal at the 2010 WJC-U18 event. Forbort will don No. 3 for the Monarchs.
