Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Penguins goaltender Jeff Zatkoff only needed to make 11 saves to pick up his fourth shutout of the season as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton defeated the Albany Devils, 4-0, at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
The Penguins hopped on the power play just 19 seconds into the game and needed only a half minute to take a 1-0 lead. Driving down the left wing, Trevor Smith took the puck across the blueline and snapped a shot that was stopped by Jeff Frazee, but Chad Kolarik dumped in the rebound for his team-leading 26th goal of the season.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton stretched that lead two just 11 seconds before the first intermission with its fifth power play of the period. Alex Grant fired a pass from his own blueline that sprung Smith behind the Devils defense for a backhander past the blocker of Frazee. The Penguins finished the opening period with a 17-1 shot advantage.
The score remained 2-0 in favor of the Penguins until the 11:00 mark of the final period when they potted their third goal of the night on the man-advantage. Alex Grant notched his second marker in as many games, unleashing a slapshot from the center point that clipped off of Frazee's stick and fluttered into the net.
Paul Thompson completed the scoring with 4:47 left in regulation as he got a piece of Jayson Megna's shot from in close and deflected inside the near post.
Zatkoff won his fourth straight start to go to 25-19-0 on the season. Frazee took the loss with 30 saves on 34 shots.
