Monarchs Set Franchise Mark In Victory of P-Bruins

November 29, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manchester Monarchs News Release

Right wing George Parros finished with one goal, one assist and two fights, and goaltender Adam Hauser collected 20 saves for his third shutout of the season, and both helped the Manchester Monarchs set a franchise record for largest margin of victory in their 7-0 win over the Providence Bruins on Saturday night. A loud and appreciative sellout crowd of 9,916 watched as the Monarchs jumped on the Bruins early and never let up.

The win was the first in three games for the Monarchs (11-8-1-2, 25 points), who regained second place in the very competitive Atlantic Division. The loss was the first in five games for the Bruins (10-7-4-0, 23 points), who dropped into a third place tie with the Worcester IceCats.

The Monarchs, who improved to 2-0-0-0 against the Bruins this season with a pair of shutouts, went for the knockout blow early. Parros, left wing Noah Clarke, center Yanick Lehoux and left wing Scott Barney all contributed as the Monarchs tied their season high for goals in a period with four in the first.

Parros started the party by scoring just 2:07 in. The 6-foot-5, 232-pound rookie from Randolph, New Jersey, surprised Tim Thomas with a sneaky wrist shot that found the goaltender's five-hole. Parros netted the first goal of his young career after leading a 2-on-1 rush with Clarke into the offensive zone.

Clarke, who secured his first career hat trick the last time he played on Verizon Wireless Arena ice (Sunday, November 23 vs. Springfield), made it 2-0 Monarchs with his seventh goal, scored at 6:48. Parros and Seeley assisted as Clarke scored from the blue line with a wrist shot that Thomas was unable to locate through a screen.

Left wing Ryan Flinn and center Brendan Walsh were mixing it up in the corner when the Monarchs scored their third goal of the period. Walsh jabbed Flinn with a right and Flinn retaliated with a left moments after centering the puck to Clarke. Clarke continued toward the net with the puck and snapped off a shot that Thomas barely got a piece of. Lehoux next swept into the crease and pushed the loose puck across the goal line at 14:04. Roughing penalties were assessed to both Flinn and Walsh after the goal was scored.

Barney outfought defenseman Brian White along the end boards to score his team-leading 11th goal at 18:08 of the period. The native of Oshawa, Ontario, used his long frame to slide his wrap-around shot just inside the left post. Defenseman Tomas Zizka and right wing Pavel Rosa shared assists on Barney's power play tally, scored nearly three minutes into center Andre Savage's double minor for interference and unsportsmanlike conduct.

Starter Thomas was replaced by goaltender Hannu Toivonen to open the second period, but the change did nothing to slow down the Monarchs offensive attack as left wing Jeff Giuliano and Lehoux pushed the Monarchs lead to 6-0 with goals at 2:42 and 4:50 respectively. Giuliano scored his second of the season by pulling up in the right circle and beating Toivonen low to the stick side. Lehoux netted his second of the game and his sixth overall with a sweeping backhander after Toivonen knocked down Barney's drive in the slot. Rosa also assisted on the play.

Parros, already having a career night offensively, brought the sellout crowd to its feet when he fought Walsh at 8:20 of the period. Right wing Dan Welch, who earlier in the period was viciously cross-checked in the face off circle by center Matt Herr, hit the P-Bruins where it hurts most when he scored the Monarchs third goal of the period and seventh goal overall at 11:24. Welch netted his fifth by rifling his shot over the right shoulder of Toivonen. Giuliano and Barney assisted on the play.

Lost in the flood of goals was an excellent goaltending effort by starter Adam Hauser, who turned aside all 10 of the shots he faced in the middle period. Hauser was at his best early in the period with the P-Bruins desperately trying to come back from four goals down. He stopped three point blank attempts, including right wing Pat Leahy's breakaway bid, in the opening two minutes of the period, and finished with 20 saves and his sixth win. Two of his wins have come in the form of shutouts against the Bruins this season.

Parros locked up his number one star status in the scoreless third when he again fought Walsh. His night included two points, a plus-2 plus/minus rating and 12 penalty minutes.

The Monarchs are scheduled to close the weekend with a 4:05 p.m. matinee contest against the Worcester IceCats on Sunday, November 30 at the Centrum Centre. They will then return to the friendly confines of the Verizon Wireless Arena, the scene of eight of their 11 wins this season (8-3-0-1 in 12 home games this season), when they host the first place Hartford Wolf Pack on Wednesdaym, December 3 at 7:05 p.m.

Monarchs Ticket Availability Update:
