Monarchs Recall Hayward; Sign Ftorek

MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have recalled right wing Leon Hayward from the ECHL's Reading Royals and signed right wing Sam Ftorek to a professional tryout agreement, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today. Hayward, 24, returns to the Monarchs where he has one point (an assist) and two penalty minutes in four games this season. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound native of Seattle, Washington, also has six goals, eight points (6-2=8) and 12 penalty minutes in 12 games with the Royals this season. Hayward, who wears jersey No. 72, also appeared in seven games with the Monarchs last season, scoring three points (1-2=3) and registering 15 penalty minutes.

Ftorek, 28, the son of former NHL coach Robbie Ftorek, is scheduled to make his AHL debut tonight after 311 professional games in the ECHL and in Europe. Ftorek, who turns 29 on Sunday, November 30, joins the Monarchs after collecting 11 goals, 21 points (11-10=21) and 28 penalty minutes in 18 games with the Greensboro Generals of the ECHL this season. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound native of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, who played for St. Anselm College during the 1997-98 season, scored a career high 33 goals and 61 points (33-28=61) with the Generals during the 2002-03 season.

The Monarchs (10-8-1-2) will host the Providence Bruins at 7:35 p.m. tonight at the Verizon Wireless Arena. A sellout crowd (9,916) is expected for tonight's game, where the first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a free MAX Mini-Bobblehead Doll, courtesy of Catholic Medical Center. After tonight, the Monarchs are scheduled to close the weekend with a 4:05 p.m. matinee contest against the Worcester IceCats on Sunday, November 30 at the Centrum Centre.
