Springfield, MA – Rookie goaltender David LeNeveu made 30 saves to register his first professional shutout as the Springfield Falcons defeated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 1-0, before 3,688 at the Springfield Civic Center on Saturday night. Left wing Mike Stutzel scored during a Springfield power play early in the third period for the game's lone tally. Penguins netminder Andy Chiodo turned aside 26 of 27 shots in the hard-luck loss. The win ended a season-high five-game losing streak for the Falcons.

Following two scoreless periods, the Falcons capitalized on their fifth power play of the game at 3:56 of the third frame. Stutzel buried a rebound for his fifth goal of the season after Chiodo stopped a whirl-around shot from Springfield center Chris Ferraro from the top of the left wing face-off circle. The goal was Stutzel's first career game winner.

LeNeveu stopped 12 Wilkes-Barre shots in both the first and third periods en route to his first pro shutout. The Fernie, British Columbia native broke ECAC and Cornell University records for shutouts previously held by Hall of Famer Ken Dryden by recording nine as a sophomore in college last season.

The shutout was Springfield's second of the season. Jean-Marc Pelletier made 27 saves in a 1-0 overtime blanking of the Norfolk Admirals on October 29th.

The Falcons finished the game one-for-six with the man advantage. Wilkes-Barre also had six power-play chances in the contest. The Falcons successfully killed off a Trevor Gillies' major penalty in the first period and a Penguins' five-on-three power play that lasted 1:09 later in the game.

Gillies was issued the additional major penalty as well as a game misconduct for head butting during a altercation with Wilkes-Barre's David Koci just 2:42 into the contest.

Center Krystofer Kolanos, who was assigned to the Falcons by the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday, was credited with three shots on goal and created several scoring chances in his first game with Springfield.

The Falcons return to action on Sunday against the Lowell Lock Monsters at the Civic Center beginning at 4:05 p.m. To order tickets, call the Civic Center box office at (413) 787-6600 or for information call the Falcons' team office at (413) 739-3344.
