Springfield, MA – The Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL) today announced that center Krystofer Kolanos (kris-TOH-fer koh-LA-nohs) has been assigned to the club by the Phoenix Coyotes. Kolanos has skated in 21 games with the Coyotes this season.

Kolanos, 22, has registered 26 points (13g, 13a) in 80 games over three seasons with Phoenix. The 6'3", 203-pound forward has collected four points (2g, 2a) with the team this season. In his rookie campaign of 2001-02, Kolanos posted 22 points (11g, 11a) in 57 games and led all NHL rookies with six game-winning goals. He played in only two games during the 2002-03 season due to a concussion. The Calgary native was chosen with the Coyotes' first selection (1st round, 19th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

Kolanos's penalty shot goal against Colorado Avalanche netminder Patrick Roy on March 30, 2002 was recently voted by fans as the top moment in the history of the Phoenix Coyotes.

Prior to playing professionally, Kolanos skated two seasons at Boston College. His goal at 4:43 of overtime against North Dakota in 2001 gave Boston College their first NCAA hockey championship in 52 years. Kolanos ranked second on the Eagles in scoring for the 2000-01 season with 50 points (25g, 25a).

Goaltender Zac Bierk (ZAK BUHRK) will also be in Springfield to practice with the Falcons, but is not being assigned to the club.

Kolanos is scheduled to arrive in Springfield in time for the Falcons' game tonight versus the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Game time is 7:35 p.m. Following tonight, the Falcons will face the Lowell Lock Monsters at The Nest on Sunday starting at 4:05 p.m. Sunday marks the second WMAS Family Night of the season. Purchase four tickets, four programs and four Wendy's Restaurants meals for $60.00 through the Falcons front office for the game. A free public skate follows the game.
