Manchester Monarchs News Release

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Manchester Monarchs topped the Worcester Railers, Friday night, by a score of 4-2, at the DCU Center.

A two-goal night from Nic Pierog, was enough for the Monarchs (8-6-1-1) to earn a win against the Worcester Railers (6-8-2-0), and to extend their winning streak to four games.

The Monarchs opened the scoring at 1:18 of the first period, with a goal from Nic Pierog, scoring his seventh goal of the season. After a pass from Matt Marcinew bounced off a Railers defensemen, Pierog picked up the puck and quickly sent a wrist shot through the legs of Railers goaltender, Evan Buitenhuis, to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead.

The Railers answered at 9:18 in the second period, when Barry Almeida scored his fifth goal of the season. Tyler Barnes sent a pass from behind the Monarchs net, and found Almeida camped in front of net. Almedia then one-timed a wrist shot past Cole Kehler, to even the game up, 1-1.

The Monarchs gained the lead at 16:10 in the second period, when Pierog scored his second goal of the night and his eighth goal of the season. Chris Carlisle sent a pass to Pierog skating down the left side of the Railers offensive zone. Pierog then snapped a wrist shot past the blocker of Buitenhuis, to give the Monarchs a 2-1 lead.

The Railers responded at 4:03 in the third period, with a goal from Almeida, earning his second goal of the night and sixth on the season. Almeida sent a pass intended for Ryan Hitchcock, across the Monarchs crease, but Hitchcock never touched the puck and it snuck by the pad of Kehler, making the score 2-2.

The Monarchs regained the lead at 6:47 in the third period, with a goal from Cory Ward, earning his second goal of the season. After a shot from Jack Nevins, Ward picked up the rebound and slipped a wrist shot past Buitenhuis at the front of the crease, to give the Monarchs a 3-2 lead.

The Monarchs extended their lead to 4-2, with a goal from Zeb Knutson at 10:34 in the third period, scoring his third goal of the year. Travis Walsh found Knutson skating down the left side of the Railers offensive zone, where Knutson snapped a wrist shot past the blocker of Buitenhuis.

The Monarchs return to action Saturday, November 24th at 6 p.m., where they take on the Maine Mariners. For tickets, Season Memberships and group tickets, please contact the Monarchs front office at 603-626-7825.
