Morning Skate

We Meet Again: The Mavericks and Thunder clash for the fifth time this season and fourth-straight game Friday at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. Kansas City has won three of the previous four meetings, including a Kids Day Game win last Tuesday at home and splitting a pair in Wichita over the weekend. Wichita won the Independence Cup last year, winning five of nine contests, but the Mavericks look to regain the trophy for the third time in four years.

No Place Like Home: Kansas City is one of just two teams in the ECHL with unblemished home records, standing at 6-0 on home ice thus far this season. The Mavericks are joined by only Toledo (4-0) with perfect marks in the team's home barn.

Brotherly Love: The Dziurzynski brothers played a big role in Saturday's win over Wichita, each netting a goal in regulation and then David's shootout winner. Each of the Dziurzynski siblings scored a game-tying goal in the contest, David's in the first period and Darian's in the third. The brothers both have eight points thus far on the year, David leading in goals (6g, 2a) and Darian in assists (5g, 3a).

I'm Lovin' It: Mason McDonald enters tonight's game as the lone netminder in the ECHl with an undefeated record with five or more starts on the year. The Halifax, Nova Scotia native's 6-0 mark is accompanied by strong marks of a 2.26 GAA and .916 SVP.

Matchup To Watch: Mavericks power play vs. Thunder penalty kill. In the last meeting between the teams at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena, Kansas City was able to strike twice on the man-advantage against a Wichita team that had previously been perfect on the road when down a man (17-for-17 entering the contest). More special teams scores would provide a big boost as the Mavericks look to start 4-1 against their rival.
