NORFOLK, VA- John McCarron tallied three assists, while Kyle Platzer added two goals and Jeremy Helvig made 31 saves to lead the Florida Everblades past the Norfolk Admirals Friday night at Scope. Dominic Alberga scored a goal for Norfolk. Norfolk drops to (9-7-0-1 19 Points) on the year.

The Admirals won the faceoff after the Everblades iced the puck from their own zone which led to the Norfolk goal. Dominic Alberga won the faceoff, which drifted out to Jake Wood who shot the puck from the slot and beat Jeremy Helvig on the glove side. Norfolk jumped out to an early lead at 4:12 of the first period.

Florida would tie it up a little over a minute later. After an Admirals turnover at their own blue line, John McCarron gained control of the puck which led Blake Winiecki in on a brief breakaway. Winiecki took the shot which was initially saved by Brad Barone, but the rebound bounced back to him and beat Barone on the stick side to even the score at 5:42 of the first period.

The Everblades took the lead with a goal from Zach Nastasiuk. Winiecki passed the puck from the left point to John McCarron in the right circle. McCarron then fed a pass across the ice to Zach Nastasiuk, who was there to knock the puck in back door to give Florida a 2-1 lead at 17:59 of the first period.

Florida furthered their lead with 35 seconds to go in the first period. John McCarron won the faceoff back to Blake Winiecki just to the right of the left circle in the slot. McCarron's shot took a deflection off an Admirals skate and into the net beating Barone to make the lead 3-1 for the Blades.

The Admirals cut the lead to 3-2 with a goal from Zane Schartz. Avery Peterson gained control of the puck and skated into the Florida end. Peterson then played the puck over to Jalen Smereck at the left point. Smereck found Schartz at the right point who shot the puck. Shartz's shot took a deflection off a Florida stick and went into the net to cut the Florida lead to 3-2. Peterson earned an assist on the play to record his first professional point.

Florida would again extend their lead to two goals. After Norfolk's two-on-one into the Florida end, had their shot blocked, it sprung an opportunity the other way for Florida. Steve Lorentz skated from his own defensive zone into the Norfolk end through the right circle and shot the puck. The puck was initially saved but fluttered into the air and fell over the shoulder of Ty Reichenbach to extend the Florida lead to 4-2.

Norfolk answered again with a goal from John Gustafsson. T.J. Melancon passed the puck from his own defensive zone and found Gustafsson skating into the Florida zone. Gustafsson unloaded a slap-shot from the top of the left circle that found the back of the net over the shoulder of Helvig to cut the Florida lead to 4-3.

Florida extended their lead once again to two goals. A Norfolk defender turned the puck over at the blue line which allowed for a three-on-one for Florida. Lorentz passed the puck to Shane Walsh in the middle of the circles. Walsh's initial shot was saved, and Tommy Thompson was at the back door to knock the puck in to extend the Florida lead to 5-3.

Florida continued to build on their lead at 3:42 of the third period. David Freidmann passed the puck to Kyle Platzer, who's shot from the point beat Reichenbach to make the Florida lead 6-3, and later added second goal from Platzer to put the score at 7-3.

Ty Reichenbach made 20 saves on 24 shots in relief effort of Brad Baron who allowed three goals on 13 shots. Jeremy Helvig made 21 saves on 24 shots to claim the win for the Everblades.
