TONIGHT: The Orlando Solar Bears (8-6-2-0) open up a two-game set against the Newfoundland Growlers (13-6-0-0) in the first-ever meeting between the ECHL clubs. Newfoundland is coming off a 2-0 loss at Jacksonville on Wednesday that saw the Growlers' eight-game win streak snapped. Orlando will journey north to St. John's, Newfoundland in March for a three-game set against the Growlers at Mile One Centre.
FAMILIAR FACES: The Growlers roster contains several former Solar Bears players, as forwards Ryan Moore, J.J. Piccinich and Todd Skirving, along with defenseman Alex Gudbranson have made the trip to the Sunshine State. Additionally, former Solar Bears associate coach John Snowden is Newfoundland's assistant coach and has assumed interim head coaching duties with Ryane Clowe out on indefinite medical leave.
OFFENSE ON DISPLAY: Tonight's game features two of the top three offenses in the Eastern Conference. Orlando leads the conference with an average of 3.50 goals scored per game, while Newfoundland sits in third in the East with 3.42 goals scored per game. The Solar Bears are also averaging 33 shots on goal per game, while the Growlers are averaging 29.74 shots on goal.
SCHOENBORN RETURNS: Forward Alex Schoenborn is expected to make his return to the lineup for the Solar Bears tonight after spending the past several weeks on IR. In six games with Orlando this season, Schoenborn has three assists.
BOURKE-PEDERSEN-SHAW REMAINS INTACT: The line of Troy Bourke, Brent Pedersen and Brady Shaw produced both of Orlando's goals in Wednesday's game against South Carolina and will remain together for tonight's game. Each player has produced one goal and two assists over their last two games.
