LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
At Hartford (10/8): The Manchester Monarchs were defeated by the Hartford Wolf Pack, 4-3, in the season opener at the Hartford Civic Center on Saturday night. Center Connor James scored two goals and defenseman Marty Wilford scored on the power play for the Monarchs. The Wolf Pack received tallies from center Jarkko Immonen (2), right wing Craig Weller and defenseman Ivan Baranka. Goaltender Adam Hauser stopped 33 of 37 shots for the Monarchs. Wolf Pack goaltener Al Montoya made 22 saves in his professional debut. The Monarchs went 1-7 on the power play while Hartford was 3-9.
MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS
10/9/05: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) loaned defenseman Denis Grebeshkov to the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).
10/7/05: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) loaned goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji to the Reading Royals (ECHL).
10/5/05: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) signed right wing Eric Neislon to a one-year contract and loaned him to the Bakersfield Condors (ECHL).
10/4/05: The Los Angeles Kings (AHL) loaned left wings Noah Clarke and Ryan Flinn to the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).
10/3/05: The Los Angeles Kings (AHL) loaned left wing Jeff Giuliano to the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).

The only season the Monarchs won the season opener, a 5-2 win over Worcester on October 15, 2004, they went on to win 20 of their first 21 games.
Center Connor James scored his first two goals of the season against the Wolf Pack on Saturday night. The Kings ninth-round (279th overall) pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, appeared in 14 games with the Monarchs during the 2004-05 season and recorded two goals. His two goals last season came against the Portland Pirates on February 5, 2005.
Left wing Noah Clarke, selected by the Kings in the ninth-round (250th overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, recorded his 100th point (47-53=100) on Saturday night against the Wolf Pack. Clarke assisted on defenseman Marty Wilford's first of the year.
Right wing Brad Smyth is one assist away from reaching the 400-assist plateau. Smyth is 43rd on the AHL's all-time regular season point list with 581 points (292-289=581) in 530 games over nine seasons (1994-present).
Former Monarchs defenseman Joe Rullier assisted on Hartford's game winning goal on Saturday night. Rullier signed as a free-agent with the New York Rangers after being a member of the Los Angeles Kings organization from 2000-2005.
