
Dustin Penner Returns To Maine

PORTLAND, ME- The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has assigned Dustin Penner to the Portland Pirates, Anaheim's primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Penner, 23 (9/28/82), appeared in 77 games last season with Cincinnati of the AHL, totaling 10-18=28 points with 82 penalty minutes. The 6-4, 245-pound right wing made the Mighty Ducks opening night roster, but has not appeared in a regular season game. He played five preseason games with Anaheim, earning 1-3=4 points.
A native of Winkler, Manitoba, Penner was signed by the Mighty Ducks as a free agent on May 12, 2004.
During the 2003-04 season, Penner racked up 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points and 52 penalty minutes in 43 games with the University of Maine. He helped the Black Bears advance to the NCAA Championship game, scoring the game-winning goal versus Boston College in the semifinals. On Maine's roster, he ranked fifth in goals, tied for sixth in points and tied for seventh in assists. For his efforts on the season, he earned the University of Maine's Jack Semler Award, given to the team's most improved player. The 6-4, 240-pound forward earned 33 points in 23 games with Minot State University-Bottineau in 2001-2002 prior to red shirting the 2002-2003 season.
The Pirates now have 25 players on their active roster.
The Pirates next game is on Friday night in Providence against the Providence Bruins at 7:05 p.m. The Pirates home opener is this Saturday, Hockey Night in Portland, versus the Providence Bruins at 7:05 p.m. The first 3,000 fans will receive magnetic schedules compliments of Dunkin' Donuts, plus it will be United Way Night.
Season ticket plans for the 2005-06 season are now on sale at the Pirates office, located at 531 Congress Street in Portland. Ticket plans start at just $50.
