Monarchs recall two from Reading

Manchester, NH - The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) today announced that center Dan Riva (REE-va) and defenseman Mat Snesrud (Snes-RUDE) have been recalled from the Reading Royals (ECHL). Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough made the announcement. Riva, 27, a 6-foot-0, 195-pound pivotman from Framingham, MA, has eight goals, seven assists and 15 points in 14 games with the Royals this season. Five of his eight goals have been scored on the power play. Riva has also logged nine games with the Monarchs this season, scoring one goal while on recall from November 5 to December 9, 2002.

Riva, a fifth year pro, spent parts of the 2001-02 season with both the Monarchs and the Royals. In 29 games with the Monarchs, he registered four goals, one assist and five points. In 37 games with the Royals, he notched 10 goals, 17 assists and 27 points. Riva graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1995-99) and began his professional career with the Milwaukee Admirals, appearing in 150 games over three seasons (1998-2001). He collected 20 goals, 23 assists and 43 points during his tenure with the Admirals.

Snesrud, 23, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound rearguard from Cloquet, MN, has appeared in 31 games with the Royals this season, scoring five goals, 12 assists and 17 points. Snesrud, a second year pro, spent parts of his rookie season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL) and the Baton Rouge Kingfish (ECHL). In 63 games with the Kingfish, he notched 10 goals, 24 assists and 34 points. Snesrud, who attended Michigan Tech University (1997-2001), was scoreless in 13 games with the Sound Tigers last year.

Both Riva and Snesrud are expected to join the Monarchs for 10:00 practice tomorrow at the Tri-Town rink in Hooksett, NH.

The first place Monarchs (17-5-3-3, 40 points, North Division) return to action Friday when they host the Saint John Flames at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Travis Scott Bobblehead Dolls will be given to the first 5,000 fans attending Friday's game. The Monarchs Second Annual Teddy Bear Toss is also planned. Friday's game is scheduled for a 7:35 p.m. start time. Ken Cail will broadcast the game on the Monarchs Radio Network (610 WGIR, 930 WGIN, 1540 WGIP, and 1400 WTSL) and on the World Wide Web at monarchshockey.com.
