Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC â December 17, 2002: Four players from Charlotte Checkers will be visiting the children's ward at Carolinas Medical Center on Wednesday at 3:30 pm. The mission will be to give Teddy Bears to the children at the hospital that fans brought to Cricket Arena on Saturday, December 7 when the Checkers hosted the Greensboro Generals.
Checkers players participating Wednesday include forwards Vince Malts and David Evans, defenseman Ryan Murray and goalie Niklas Sundberg. The "Teddy Bear Toss" was held at the Checkers home game on December 7 at Cricket Arena. Fans were asked to bring a new Teddy Bear to the game and then toss it onto the ice when the Checkers scored their first goal. The Teddy Bears were then saved for the children at Carolinas Medical Center, and the Checkers players will distribute those gifts on Wednesday.
