Norfolk Admirals News Release
McCarthy Becomes an Angel: Steve McCarthy has purchased a pair of Admirals season tickets and donated them to the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of South Hampton Roads through the Admirals Angels program. The defenseman, who was named Norfolk's Man of the Year in 2002 for his charitable work last season, was recalled to the Chicago Blackhawks on December 6 after donating the season tickets.
Joy to the World: The Blue and Gold donated more than $3,600 for The Joy Fund this year through a pair of fundraising efforts. The Admirals players' wives and girlfriends sold ornaments autographed by the players during the team's December 6th and 7th contests, with the proceeds going to The Joy Fund. Also, the Admirals, in conjunction with The Virginian-Pilot and 106.9 The Fox donated $1.00 from each walk-up ticket purchased to their December 11th game to The Joy Fund. The Pilot's Joy Fund helps underprivileged children by providing them with donations of toys and clothing.
Toys R Us: Thanks to our fans, nearly 400 plush toys flew onto the ice following the Admirals' first goal during their Third Annual Toy Toss on December 13. The collected toys are being donated to the Ronald McDonald House and the Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters (CHKD).
