Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC – December 18, 2002: The Charlotte Checkers announce today that they have acquired defenseman Chad Wilchynski from the Toledo Storm for future considerations. The move was announced today by Checkers Head Coach and General Manager Don MacAdam.

"We received really good reports on Chad from everybody we talked to," commented MacAdam. "With Nick Bilotto called up to Hartford and Wes Jarvis leaving the team to attend college, we had to get some help for our defense. Chad will be joining the team tomorrow and we look forward to his arrival."

Wilchynski is a five-year professional who has played in the American Hockey League, Western Professional Hockey League, and East Coast Hockey League during his career. Wilchynski was a fifth round draft pick of the Detroit Red Wings (125th overall) in the National Hockey League's 1995 Entry Draft. Wilchynski played five plus seasons of junior hockey in the Western Hockey League prior to turning pro with the ECHL's Birmingham Bulls in 1998. This season Wilchynski played in eight games with the first-place Toledo Storm, notching four assists and 30 penalty minutes.
