PORTLAND, ME - The Maine Red Claws (14-22) were looking for revenge for a couple of tough losses last month in Texas, but came up short against the visiting Rio Grande Valley Vipers (25-11) today, 107-101.

Playing in front of the team's 40th consecutive sellout crowd, the two teams kept it close throughout the game, ending the first half tied at 52. Maine shot 49.4% on the day to the Vipers' 41.7% but missed free throws proved costly. RGV outshot Maine from the line 81.8% (18-22) to 53.6% (15-28). Those 13 missed points proved deadly as the Vipers took the late lead.

Rio Grande Valley's high scorers were forward Jeff Adrien with 27, guard Jerel McNeal with 21, and center Mouhammad Faye with 15 points.

DeShawn Sims picked up the double-double, leading all scorers with 30 points and 11 rebounds. Veteran guard Mario West added 17 points while forward Antonio Anderson added 16. Newcomer Vernon Goodridge, acquired in a Valentine's Day trade with Springfield, gave the Red Claws a much-needed added defensive presence with six blocked shots and 7 rebounds. The Red Claws 14 blocked shots on the day was a team all-time high.

The Vipers will travel to Springfield for a Saturday morning match up with the Armor before returning to Portland to complete the season series with the Red Claws Sunday at 5 PM. Sunday's game will be Beach Party Night with Red Claws. Great seats still remain for the game, including $5 and $10 tickets.
