Iowa Wolves News Release
DES MOINES, IA, February 24, 2011- Othyus Jeffers and Michael Haynes each recorded double-doubles to lead the Iowa Energy to a 114-94 victory over the Sioux Falls Skyforce Thursday. The contest tipped at 10:30 AM as part of the Energy's Education Celebration game featuring thousands of local elementary school kids.
Haynes helped fuel an early Energy spurt as he drilled three 3-pointers in the opening minutes of the game to give Iowa a 13-2 lead. The Energy made their first seven shots of the game as they led 31-16 at the end of the 1st quarter.
The Skyforce cut the lead to seven at halftime, and an early surge in the 3rd quarter brought the visitors to within one point at 55-54. Iowa scored the next six points of the game, capped by a Haynes' layup, to retake command of the game.
The Energy closed the 3rd quarter on a 17-4 to take a 87-67 lead, and never looked back on way to their league leading 26th win of the season.
The victory extends Iowa's Eastern Conference lead to 1.0 games, and is the 136th consecutive game the franchise has led their division.
In addition to Jeffers (23 points, 12 rebounds) and Haynes (20 points, 11 rebounds), Iowa received significant contributions from Mike Taylor (15 points, 6 assists) and Marqus Blakely (12 points, 11 rebounds). Reserve Scott VanderMeer added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 5 blocks for the home team.
