Vipers Win in First Trip to Maine

PORTLAND, MAINE - In a game that featured 16 lead changes and 13 ties, the defending NBA Development League champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers beat the Maine Red Claws 107-101 Thursday at the Portland Expo Center.

The Vipers (25-11) opened the game on a 6-0 run thanks in-part to a pair of baskets by Jeff Adrien and jumped out to a leads of 10-4 and 12-7 before the Red Claws (14-22) came back to tie the game as 12-12 on a jumper by Jamar Smith. The Vipers, though, responded with a 7-0 run to take a 19-12 lead after Terrel Harris hit a reverse lay-up with 5:09 remaining in the first quarter.

Former-Viper Antonio Anderson hit a three-pointer to give the Red Claws their first lead of the game at 42-41 with 4:30 remaining in the second quarter. The Vipers tied it up at the 3:05 mark on a three-point play by Adrien that made it 46-46.

The lead fluctuated back-and-forth throughout the second half. The Vipers took the lead back for good on a transition lay-up by Jerel McNeal with 1:50 remaining that made it 98-86.

McNeal scored 21 points while Adrien finished with a team-high 27 points.

The Red Claws were led by DeShawn Sims, who scored 30 points with 11 rebounds. Anderson scored 16 points.

The Vipers return to action on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. when they face the Springfield Armor at the MassMutual Center.
