LYNX HOME OPENER- SUNDAY, MAY 18, 5:00 P.M.- PRESENTED BY BEST BUY LYNX VS SHOCK Minnesota will open its 10th anniversary season on Sunday, May 18 versus the defending Eastern Conference champion Detroit Shock. The game will be presented by Best Buy and the first 5,000 fans will receive a T-shirt courtesy of U.S. Bank. Minnesota improved to 15-13 all-time in the preseason, finishing the 2008 preseason with a record 2-1, defeating Connecticut and Indiana and falling to Los Angeles. The Lynx were led in scoring by 2008 first-round draft pick Candice Wiggins. Wiggins played in the preseason opener versus Connecticut and poured in 18 points. Second-year guard Navonda Moore averaged 13.7 ppg in three contests, all three starts. Rookie second-rounder Nicky Anosike averaged 11.3 ppg and 7.7 rpg. Detroit played in just one preseason contest, falling to San Antonio 74-64. LaToya Thomas and Sheri Sam each paced the Shock with 12 points. In two contests last season, each team won on their home floor. Detroit defeated Minnesota 85-75 back on May 22, 2007 in Auburn Hills, and the Lynx ousted the Shock 87-77 on August 16, 2007 at Target Center. Seimone Augustus led the Lynx in scoring in last year's season-series, totaling 19.0 ppg. Nicole Ohlde managed 12.0 ppg and 5.5 rpg. Minnesota is 8-7 all-time versus Detroit and 6-2 at home. The Lynx will look to improve on their 4-5 all-time record in season-openers. Sunday's home opener can be seen locally on FSN with Tom Hanneman calling the action. The Lynx will have nine days off before they head out on the road to face Houston on Tuesday, May 27 and Chicago, Thursday, May 29. LAST SUNDAY'S LYNX GAME LYNX FALL TO SPARKS IN PRESEASON FINALE LYNX 105, SPARKS 106 The Lynx closed out its three-game preseason schedule with a 106-105 double-overtime loss to the Los Angeles Sparks at the Betty Engelstad Center on Sunday. The Lynx (2-1 in the preseason) trailed by six after three quarters, but outscored the Sparks 25-19 in the fourth quarter to force overtime. The Sparks overcame 34 turnovers by making 36-of-44 free throws (.820 percent), including 7-for-11 in the two overtime sessions. The Lynx was 26-for-39 from the free-throw line. Kiesha Brown scored 16 points and Lisa Leslie scored 13 (in 15 minutes) to lead the Sparks (3-0). Navonda Moore scored 21 points and Eshaya Murphy scored 19 to lead the Lynx. Nicky Anosike contributed 15 points and seven rebounds for the Lynx. Seimone Augustus started and scored 12 points in 22 minutes in her first game back with the Lynx.
