Connecticut Sun News Release
UNCASVILLE, Conn. (May 14, 2008) - The Connecticut Sun announced today it will team up with Pitney Bowes for the "Fast Break To Reading" program during the 2008 season.
The program, which will raise funds for literacy initiatives in participating communities, is a national collaboration between Pitney Bowes, the WNBA and six franchises around the country. As part of the program, Pitney Bowes will sponsor five Reading Time-Out events throughout Connecticut. There will be one during each month of the WNBA season, and they will all be held in different regions of the state. Connecticut Sun players, along with representatives from Pitney Bowes, will be on hand at each event to read to area youth and to speak about the importance of reading.
"Pitney Bowes is excited to be teaming up with the Connecticut Sun and WNBA to help educate youth in Connecticut on the importance of reading and literature," said Juanita James, Chief Communications Officer, Pitney Bowes. "This is a wonderful opportunity for Connecticut Sun fans to show their support for their favorite team and help raise funds for literacy."
In conjunction with the program, during five Sun home games, a section will be dedicated specifically to children that participated in the Reading Time-Out events held in the days prior to each game. At the conclusion of the program, the WNBA, with an assist from Pitney Bowes, will award the team that raises the most money through participation and donations with a Reading and Learning Center refurbishment in their local community.
"The Connecticut Sun is looking forward to working with Pitney Bowes to raise awareness of the importance of reading in communities across Connecticut this season," said Sun Director of Marketing Gwendolyn Pointer.
The Connecticut Sun will open its sixth season of play on May 17th by hosting the Atlanta Dream in Mohegan Sun Arena. Season tickets and mini-plans are on sale now and can be reserved by calling a Sun Ticket Representative at 1.877.SUN.TIXX (786-8499) or by visiting www.connecticutsun.com.
