Rockford Aviators News Release

MARION, IL - The Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, dropped the second game of the series against the Southern Illinois Miners tonight, losing in walk-off fashion by a final score of 4-3.

The Miners (24-20) got on the board first with a single run in the bottom of the first inning, but the Aviators lead practically the entire game as they used a three-run fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead.

Tyger Pederson had his first extra-base hit of the season, a two-RBI triple, that scored Edgar Corcino and Kenny Bryant to give the Aviators a 2-1 lead and then Mason Morioka singled to bring in Pederson to make the lead 3-1 in the fourth.

Joey Wagman had another impressive start for the Aviators, but earned the no-decision after pitching seven innings and allowing two runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out seven.

Matt Frahm pitched one scoreless inning for the Aviators and allowed just one hit and struck out another batter.

However, in the ninth inning, Gerardo Sanchez came in to pitch for the Aviators and was looking for his eleventh save in as many attempts.

Sanchez struck out the first batter he faced, but then allowed two consecutive hits and intentionally walked Jay Austin to load the bases as the Aviators looked to get a force out at any base.

Things didn't go according to plan as Frank Martinez had an RBI single to right that scored Booth to tie the game up at three and, with the bases still loaded, Aaron Gates sent a line drive to the right-center field wall to score the winning run for the Miners.

The Aviators have now lost four in a row for the first time this season and will look to avoid the sweep tomorrow night when they face the Miners in the final game of the series beginning at 5:05 p.m.
