Chicago Wolves News Release

MILWAUKEE---The Chicago Wolves struck first and traded goals with the Milwaukee Admirals for two periods before falling victim to a power-play marker late in the second period and never regrouping, suffering a 4-2 loss in their preseason finale at the MSOE Kern Center on Saturday night. Chicago jumped out to an early lead when center Colton Fretter took advantage of an out of position Milwaukee netminder, Dov Grumet-Morris, grabbed a loose puck and knocked it into the net at 3:16 of the first period, but the squad never regained the advantage after Admirals defenseman Richard Stehlik snared a pair of goals at 8:35 and 12:42 of the opening frame. Milwaukee inched ahead for good with a goal from left wing Kelsey Wilson at 4:34 of the third period. Center Cal O'Reilly gained control of the puck behind the net, wrapped around and slid it across to Wilson, who tapped it past Chicago netminder Ondrej Pavelec to make the score 3-2. Wolves netminder Fred Brathwaite stopped 12 of 14 shots he faced in his first appearance in goal for the Wolves this preseason, before giving way to Pavelec, who posted 12 saves in his American Hockey League debut. Chicago defenseman Chad Denny tied the game at two with a marker late in the second period, beating Admirals goaltender Maxime Daigneault, who relieved Grumet-Morris at 10:51 of the frame, stick-side. Grumet-Morris and Daigneault combined for 15 saves in the contest. Milwaukee left wing Antti Pihlstrom rounded out the scoring with an empty-net marker at 19:37. The Wolves open their regular-season schedule against the Houston Aeros at the Toyota Center on Sat., Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. The team's 40-game home slate launches at the Allstate Arena the following Saturday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.
