Cleveland Monsters News Release

Fans got their first taste on Saturday of what they can expect this season at The Q. The Monsters played a "Burgundy and White Game" intrasquad scrimmage, which was open to the public, at Hoover Arena operated by Ice Land USA in Strongsville. White outpowered Burgundy, 7-4, behind two scores from Justin Corbin.

It was standing room only at Hoover, as local fans were anxious to get an early peek at the team. The players came out strong, despite undoubtedly being tired. The scrimmage came on the heels of the Monsters winning back-to-back pre-season games the previous two nights. Lake Erie defeated Milwaukee, 4-2, on Thursday, then followed up with a 6-3 win in Chicago on Friday.

Corbin notched two quick goals in the first period for White, while Rob Drummond also added one before Burgundy got on the board with an Matt Hussey goal. Both sides found the back of the net in the second period, as Andrew Martens scored for White and David Jones added one for Burgundy.

The White team finished strong in the final period, with Mathieu Beaudoin scoring, followed by two goals from Brent Kelly. Burgundy's two goals by Brett Hemingway and Jones again were not enough to stop White.

Next up for the Monsters is Opening Night at The Q! The team will face the Grand Rapids Griffins on Saturday, October 6th at 7:30 p.m. Purchase your tickets now for a night of hockey history.
