WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Behind a complete-game, two-hit effort from Tyson Miller, Myrtle Beach topped Winston-Salem 6-1 in seven innings in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Myrtle Beach (24-34, 58-70) took an early lead in the top of the second inning. After Blake Hickman walked Tyler Alamo to start the inning, he exited the game due to injury. Mike Morrison came on in relief and allowed a single to Roberto Caro, putting runners on first and second with nobody out. Following a fielder's choice groundout that moved Alamo to third base, the Pelicans plated a run on a wild pitch.

Winston-Salem (35-21, 76-50) promptly tied the game in the home half of the frame. With one out, Yermin Mercedes launched a 2-1 pitch from Tyson Miller (9-8) over the left-field fence for a solo home run. The long ball is Mercedes' team-leading 13th homer of the season and third in the last four games.

From there, though, Miller cruised. The right-hander allowed just one other hit - an infield single to Yeyson Yrizarri - across his career-high tying seven innings. The right-hander also equaled a career-high with eight strikeouts.

The Pelicans took the lead for good in the fifth on a solo home run from Christian Donahue against Devan Watts (0-2), and tacked on another run in the sixth when Jared Young singled, stole second base and scored on an RBI double from Caro.

Then, Myrtle Beach scored three runs in the seventh against outfielder JJ Muno, who made his first professional pitching appearance. After Donahue walked and Zach Davis was hit by a pitch, Aramis Ademan lined an RBI single to extend Myrtle Beach's lead to 4-1. Davis later scored on a sacrifice fly, and Ademan came around on an RBI double from Jared Young to cap the scoring.

Winston-Salem's series against Myrtle Beach concludes on Thursday at BB&T Ballpark when Alec Hansen (0-0, 3.60 ERA) toes the rubber against right-hander Erick Leal (1-1, 1.30 ERA). Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 p.m., fans can catch all of the action on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App.

The series finale is a Lowes Foods Thirsty Thursday, featuring select beers for $1 through the seventh inning. Following a three-game series at Buies Creek, the Dash return to BB&T Ballpark on Tuesday, August 27, for their final regular season homestand of the season.
