SALEM, VA - The Salem Red Sox snatched victory from the jaws of defeat Thursday night, with Tyler Hill singling home Jagger Rusconi to cap a two-out rally and score a 2-1 walkoff win over the Frederick Keys at Haley Toyota Field.

The Red Sox (28-39, 60-65) finally cashed in when it counted, having reached base in five of the first six innings but not bringing any runs across the plate. Frederick (24-33, 59-67) took the loss even though Salem failed to notch an extra-base hit in the game.

Starters Hunter Smith (ND) and Lucas Humpal (ND) both held their opponents scoreless through four innings, but the Keys broke through in the top of the fifth against Salem reliever Jared Oliver (ND), who gave up a one-out double to Daniel Fajardo. Oliver recovered to fan Cole Billingsley, but Preston Palmeiro sliced an RBI single into the outfield to put the Keys up 1-0.

Red Sox reliever Durbin Feltman (W, 1-0) gave up a leadoff hit in the top of the seventh, but managed to recover without surrendering a run. In the bottom of the inning, Josh Tobias slapped a single to left to lead off the frame against Keys reliever Matt Trowbridge (BS, 2; L, 4-2), and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Victor Acosta. Ryan Scott struck out looking for the second out, but Rusconi cracked an RBI single to left to plate Tobias and tie the game. Nick Sciortino wrested a two-out walk from Trowbridge, setting the stage for the final blow. On a 3-2 pitch, Hill hit a liner to left, and Rusconi raced home ahead of Randolph Gassaway's throw to score the winning run.

Smith was superb, allowing four hits in four shutout innings. Oliver gave up a run on two hits and two walks while fanning two in two innings of relief. Feltman allowed one hit and struck out one in his only inning.

The Sox will send righty Denyi Reyes to the hill in the rubber match Thursday, with Frederick countering with right-hander Cristian Alvarado. First pitch from Haley Toyota Field is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., and the pregame show with Ben Gellman and Suzie Cool begins at 6:45 p.m. on the Red Sox broadcast network.
