WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Thanks to three runs over the first two innings, Winston-Salem pulled out a 3-2 victory over Myrtle Beach in Wednesday's twin bill opener.

In the bottom of the first inning, Nick Madrigal singled with one out against Erich Uelman (3-3). Blake Rutherford bounced into a fielder's choice, but, with Gavin Sheets batting, Rutherford swiped second base. Later in the at-bat, Sheets stroked a run-scoring double down the left-field line to make it a 1-0 contest.

Winston-Salem (35-20, 76-49) added to its lead in the second. After Daniel Gonzalez singled with two outs, Laz Rivera lined a single to left to put runners on first and second. Following a pitching change in which Jose Paulino replaced Uelman, Luis Gonzalez stroked an RBI single through the left side. On the play, a throwing error to home plate by left fielder Luis Ayala allowed Daniel Gonzalez to come into score, upping Winston-Salem's lead to three.

Right-hander Lincoln Henzman tossed three scoreless innings for the Dash, yielding just one hit and one walk in his seventh start of the year. The Pelicans (23-34, 57-70) plated a run in the fourth and fifth inning against Drew Hasler (8-2), but the right-hander earned his eighth win of the season with two innings of work.

Meanwhile, Tyler Johnson locked down his fourth save with Winston-Salem, tossing two scoreless innings and striking out four batters. In 26 innings pitched at the High-A level, the former South Carolina Gamecock has struck out 36 batters.
