
Mikkelsen Leads Patriots To 7-2 Win

BRIDGEPORT, CT- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 7-2 in front of 869 fans at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Tuesday evening.
The Patriots struck first by sending nine men to the plate and scoring five runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 5-0 lead. Centerfielder Mike Lockwood drew a one out walk, stole second and scored on a RBI single to center by leftfielder Jason Romano. After walks to third baseman Jose Morban and designated hitter Brandon Larson, first baseman Todd Leathers lined a two run double to right center field that scored Romano and Morban. Catcher Travis Anderson then ripped a two out two run single to center that plated Larson and Leathers.
Somerset added two more runs in the top of the second inning to extend their lead to 7-0 when second baseman Teuris Olivares led off with a single to center and came around to score on a two run home run to right by Lockwood, his 19th of the 2007 season.
The Bluefish scored a run in the bottom of the third to cut the Patriots lead to 7-1 when centerfielder Bobby Malek hit a one out single to right, moved to second on a hit by pitch to shortstop Nick Oriz and scored on a RBI single to right by third baseman Jay Caligiuri.
Bridgeport scored their final run in the bottom of the eighth inning to make it 7-2 when Caligiuri hit a one out triple to right and scored on a RBI single to center by catcher Marcos Sanchez.
Patriots starter Lincoln Mikkelsen (1-0) picked up the win, allowing one run on five hits while striking out five and walking two in six innings of work. Bluefish starter Garrett Berger (0-3) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs on five hits while walking nine and striking out six in 5.1 innings pitched.
With the win the Patriots improved to 32-20 in the second half and 67-48 on the 2007 season while the Bluefish dropped to 21-31 and 56-59 overall.
The Somerset Patriots 10th Anniversary Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Tuesday, September 11th when the Patriots return home for a 7:05 pm game against the Lancaster Barnstormers. The game includes Law Enforcement Night & Wildlife Conservation Night.
