Camden Riversharks News Release

CAMDEN, NJ - After giving up a combined 22 runs in its past two games, the Camden Riversharks desperately needed a strong outing from starting pitcher Nate Buttenfield. The right-hander delivered, throwing 7.1 innings and allowing just one earned run to propel the Riversharks to a 4-1 victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers on Tuesday at Campbell's Field.

Buttenfield, who was making his third start in 16 appearances with the ballclub, improved to 3-0 with the victory. He scattered eight hits, struck out six and did not allow a runner past first after the third. Alberto Castillo picked up his fourth save by throwing 1.2 scoreless innings.

Denny Abreu had three hits and was a home run away from the cycle, while Raul Marval had a pair of singles.

Camden took the lead for good in the fifth on the strength of back-to-back doubles by LJ Biernbaum and Craig Paquette. Biernbaum also drove in a run in the first on a groundout to add to his team-high total of 79 RBI. The Riversharks added an insurance run in the eighth on an RBI double by Abreu.

Barry Armitage (3-2) suffered the loss, despite a solid outing for the Barnstormers. He allowed three earned runs in 6.2 innings.

Michael Woods had three hits to pace Lancaster.

The Atlantic League South Division First Half Champion 'Sharks (25-28, 63-52) continue their homestand on Wednesday at 7:05 pm against the Barnstormers (24-28, 53-62) on Baptist Night. Tickets are still available at 1-866-SHARKS-9 or log onto www.riversharks.com.
