The Bridgeport Bluefish were not able to handle the offensive onslaught the Somerset Patriots dished out, falling 7-2 in the first game of the series. All of Somerset's seven runs were scored in the first two innings.
Jay Caligiuri was the top offensive producer for the Bluefish going three-for-five with an RBI and a run. Caligiuri knocked in Bobby Malek in the third inning for the first run of the game with Marcos Sanchez being the only other 'Fish to pick up an RBI driving in Caligiuri later on in the eighth.
Mike Lockwood pushed the Pats past the 'Fish going one-for-two with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Todd Leathers and Travis Anderson both knocked in two RBIs in the game with Jason Romano accounting for the other one.
Patriot Lincoln Mikkelsen (1-0) picked up the win in his first game this season pitching six innings allowing only one run on five hits and struck out five. Garrett Berger (0-3) absorbed the loss pitching 5.1 innings allowing seven runs on five hits and nine walked batters.
The Bluefish continue their final home-stand of the season in game two of the three game series against Somerset tomorrow at 7:05 P.M. Wednesday is $1.00 Dog Day with $1.00 hot dogs and sodas.
