Bears Erase Five Run Deficit To Win 10-5

NEWARK, NJ - September 4, 2007 - Trailing 5-0 after six innings, the Newark Bears scored five in the seventh and five in the ninth to comeback and defeat the York Revolution 10-5 on Tuesday night at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Bears are now 11-2 against the Revolution this season and 62-52 overall.

The Bears sent nine men to the plate in the seventh inning to tie the game at five. Catcher John Pachot hit an RBI double, shortstop Ramon Castro singled in a run, and second baseman Pat Peavey hit a two out, two run double. First baseman Victor Rodriguez capped the scoring with his 90th RBI on a double to left field. Rodriguez and Pachot both finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

In the ninth inning, the Bears sent nine men to the plate again to take the lead. Rodriguez delivered an RBI single, third baseman Corey Smith had a run-scoring double to left centerfield, and right fielder Jose Herrera knocked in a run with a single to right. The Bears added two more on a fielding error.

York scored all five of its runs in the bottom of the second inning. After a run scored on a groundout, third baseman Luis Cotto hit an RBI single and second baseman Keoni De Renne smashed a three run home run. Cotto reached base all four times he came to the plate, going 2-for-2 with a walk and a hit by pitch.

Jeremy Hill (2-0) picked up the win for the Bears with two scoreless innings in relief. Bears' starter Dusty Bergman (0-0) went seven innings, allowing five runs, none earned, on eight hits and two walks, striking out three. Bergman allowed only three hits after the second inning and just one after the third.

Revolution right-hander Jason Olson (6-3) took the loss. In one and two-third innings, he allowed three runs on three hits and a walk.

The Bears and Revolution will play game two of the series on Wednesday night at 7:05 PM. Right-handed pitcher Mark Woodyard (0-0) will make his first start for the Bears.
