Mike Kompon Loaned To Hershey
January 24, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that centerman Mike Kompon has been loaned to the Hershey Bears of the AHL. In separate transactions, the Royals also released defenseman Antoine Bergeron and forward B.J. Stephens.
This marks the second call up to the AHL for Kompon, a second year pro from Thunder Bay, Ontario, who is the Royals' leading scorer with 47 points (11g - 36a = 47pts) in thirty-three games. On January 7, 2006, Kompon was loaned to the Manchester Monarchs, where he played two games, picking up an assist and four penalty minutes. The United Hockey League's Rookie of the Year in 2004-05, Kompon is currently riding a twenty game point streak (5g - 27a = 32 pts), the longest such streak in the ECHL this season. Kompon, who has had at least one point in 29 of his 33 games with Reading this year, racked up a season high four point performance (two goals-including the game winner-and two assists) in the Royals' 7-2 win over Johnstown last Saturday night. Kompon had been selected as a replacement player for the 2006 ECHL All-Star Game Presented By Bud Light to be played on Wednesday, January 25 in Fresno, California; but this call up to Hershey will necessitate that Kompon forgo that game.
The Royals are currently on a week-long hiatus for the ECHL All-Star break, but return to action Saturday night in Dayton for the start of a three game road trip: @ Dayton (Saturday, January 28 at 7:00 pm); @ Toledo (Wednesday, February 1 at 7:00 pm); and @ Wheeling (Friday, February 3 at 7:00). The Royals return to the Sovereign Center on Saturday, February 4 (7:00 pm), when they will face the Nailers again. On that night, the first 2500 fans in attendance will receive a Royals' poster courtesy of the Reading Eagle. Royals' game day broadcasts can be heard on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Ephrata and www.royalshockey.com with pre-game beginning 30 minutes before the opening face-off. Streaming video is also available through the Royals' website on a pay per view basis provided by B2 Networks.
