Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - All-star forward Alex Leavitt had a hand in five of Alaska's six goals, scoring his 10th of the year to go along with four assists as the Aces completed a three-game sweep of Stockton with a 6-3 win over the Thunder in front of 5,619 at Sullivan Arena.
Alaska again jumped out early, as Joe Talbot scored his 10th goal in the last 11 games just 1:58 into the game for a 1-0 edge. Stockton tied the contest at 12:25 when Mike Lalonde flicked a backhander past Aces goalie Matt Underhill while lying prone on the ice. The Thunder took two costly penalties late in the period, and Mike Scott blasted home a one-timer on the ensuing five-on-three for his 15th goal of the year and a 2-1 advantage at the break.
Ryan Ramsay poked in a rebound at 13:30 of the second period to give Alaska a two-goal lead, and later fed Leavitt for a goal that pushed the margin to three at 15:58. Justin Maiser whistled a snap shot past Stockton netminder Jeff Weber for a 5-1 bulge five minutes into the third period that sealed the game. The Aces matched their season-high by firing 48 shots at Weber, including 36 in the first two periods alone.
Maris Ziedins rifled a snap shot by Underhill at 7:46 to bring the Thunder within 5-2, but Cam Keith scored his 13th goal of the year less than three minutes later to push the lead back to four. Geno Parrish accounted for the final score with a power play goal for Stockton with 7:44 left in the contest. Underhill finished with 22 saves to pick up his 17th win between the pipes.
Leavitt and defenseman Ryan Gaucher will represent Alaska (30-6-3) in Wednesday's ECHL All-Star Game in Fresno, Calif., at 6:00 p.m. AST. The Aces return to action next weekend at Sullivan Arena with two games against the Augusta Lynx (17-20-3), Saturday at 2:05 p.m. AST and Sunday at 5:05 p.m. AST. All Alaska Aces games, home and away, are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com.
