Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. * The Stockton Thunder will host a visit by the National Hockey League's Stanley Cup trophy at Stockton Arena, Thunder team president Dan Chapman announced today in conjunction with the ECHL and the National Hockey League.
"This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for our fans to see a part of hockey history," said Chapman. "The Stanley Cup is the most recognizable and storied trophy in all of sports, and we're thrilled our fans will have a chance to see the Cup up close."
Regarded as the most prestigious trophy in sports, the Stanley Cup will be present during the Thunder's game against the Long Beach Ice Dogs on Saturday, January 28 at 7:30 p.m. PT. Fans in attendance will have an opportunity to take their picture with the Cup and are encouraged to donate to the ECHL's Hurricane Relief fund. Fans are permitted to bring personal cameras to the game in order to take their pictures; however, professional cameras with detachable lens will not be permitted.
Thunder season ticket holders will be allowed to enter the arena early that night, beginning at 5 p.m. PT.
Originally awarded in 1893, the Stanley Cup is presented annually to the National Hockey League's playoff champion. The oldest trophy competed for by professional athletes, the Stanley Cup visited 20 of 25 ECHL cities from October through December, raising over $10,000 in hurricane relief efforts. The last five Stanley Cup Champions have contained an ECHL alumnus.
The Thunder returns to play with a 7:35 p.m. PT road faceoff against the San Diego Gulls on Friday at iPayOne Center. The game can be heard live on the internet (free-of-charge) and is available for viewing at a $6 "pay-per-view" fare at www.stocktonthunder.com, courtesy of B-2 Networks.
Thunder season tickets, individual tickets, and mini packages are on-sale now. Individual tickets can be purchased in person at Stockton Arena's Ticket Office, online at www.stocktontickets.com, or by phone at (209) 373-1700.
