Krys Barch Recalled by Iowa

The Greenville Grrrowl announced today that forward Krys Barch has been recalled by the AHL's Iowa Stars. Barch began the season in Iowa, but was sent to Greenville in late October. He played four games with the Stars in early January, and will now return for his second call-up of the season.

Barch had 14 points in 14 games with the Grrrowl, scoring 10 goals and adding 4 assists. He scored a goal in all five Grrrowl road games he played in, including the overtime game-winner against Charlotte in Greenville's most recent game. He had a +10 rating and 75 PIMs at the time of his call-up.

Barch played two games for Iowa at the start of the season, recording nine penalty minutes. He played four more games for the Stars from January 5th - 13th, collecting a goal and 12 PIMs while helping the team go 3-1.

A sixth-year pro, Barch played 55 games in Greenville last year, leading the team in major penalties with 18 and finishing third on the team with 154 PIMs. He had 30 points on 11 goals and 19 assists while playing as an alternate captain. The Guelph, Ontario native played nine games for the AHL's Norfolk Admirals last season, recording a goal and 37 PIMs.

Selected by the Washington Capitals in the fourth round of the 1998 NHL Draft, Barch played for the OHL's London Knights before turning pro and joining the Portland Pirates at the end of the 1999-00 season. The 6-2, 200-pound forward played parts of four seasons with Portland, and spent time with the ECHL's Richmond Renegades in 2001-02.

The Grrrowl are currently in the middle of the ECHL All-Star Break, with the All-Star Game to be played on Wednesday, Jan. 25th at 10 p.m. in Fresno, California. Greenville will be represented by rookie Tyler Mosienko.
