Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGDALE, Ark. - Northwest Arkansas received another solid start on Sunday night, this time by RHP Miguel Almonte, as he struck out five Midland batters but the RockHounds (11-6, 46-41) would defeat the Naturals (4-12, 44-42) by the score of 2-0.
The game featured a pitching duel between the Naturals' young right hander and RHP Jake Sanchez of the Midland RockHounds. Almonte (4-4, 4.03) worked five innings while only giving up six hits, two runs, no walks, and kept the Naturals in the ballgame throughout but would ultimately would take the loss. Meanwhile, his counterpart pitched well as Sanchez (7-5 4.70 ERA) got credited with the win as he didn't give up a single run in 6.2 innings of work while giving up five hits and no walks and striking out six.
Three consecutive batters in the top half of the third inning was the difference in the ballgame for the RockHounds. With two outs in the frame, Midland got an RBI double by Chad Pinder to left field to drive in Chad Oberacker who had singled in the previous at bat, and then the very next hitter, Rangel Ravelo, drove in Pinder on a single to right to give the RockHounds the 2-0 advantage.
RHP J.C. Sulbaran came in on relief of Almonte in the sixth inning and was fantastic as he held the RockHounds to just two hits and a one walk while striking out four in three innings of work. The bullpen continued their dominant form as RHP Benino Pruneda finished the ninth with a scoreless frame while striking out Nick Rickles to end the inning. The Naturals' pen combined for four innings of shutout relief tonight and now has eight straight shutout innings dating back to last night and the job of RHP Luke Farrell.
