CORPUS CHRISTI - Kyle Westwood permitted two runs and five hits over 7 1/3 innings as Corpus Christi captured its fourth straight, a 6-3 decision over Springfield Sunday at Whataburger Field before 5,308.

Westwood (6-3), who rolled 12 ground ball outs, was lifted for Aaron West after completing a 93-pitch outing in which he threw 62 strikes and walked and fanned two. Chris Cotton picked up a one-batter, one-out save, his third.

Springfield (9-8; 39-48) jumped on Westwood at the start. Lead-off hitter Charlie Tilson reached via an infield single and stole second. After Bruce Caldwell's one-out walk, Jonathan Rodriguez slapped a curve ball into left field for a 1-0 lead. The damage was minimized when David Washington hit into a 4-6-3 double play.

It was Corpus Christi's turn against Andrew Morales in the second, and the home club posted three runs. Newcomer A.J. Reed drove a fastball into the right-center field for a double - the first of four consecutive hits. Alfredo Gonzalez had an RBI single, Brett Phillips a two-run hit. Colin Moran and Danry Vasquez chipped in with singles as well.

Jon Kemmer's 11th home run - and his fifth hit in six at-bats vs. Morales - extended the lead to 5-1 two innings later, Phillips aboard on a one-out infield single. Kemmer coaxed a lead-off walk from Iden Nazario to begin the seventh and became Corpus Christi's sixth run when Moran doubled into the left-field corner.

Washington hit a seventh-inning solo homer, his seventh, and added an RBI double in the ninth.

Morales (4-5) walked two and fanned eight in six innings of work, and was knocked around for 10 hits.

Moran, who had three hits to lead all players, owns a seven-game hitting streak. Phillips has hit in five straight.

Monday means $1 Hot Dogs and Soda as the Hooks and Cardinals complete their three-game series. Corpus Christi's Ruben Alaniz (1-1) meets Arturo Reyes (5-4) at 7:05 and gates open at 5:30.
