Tulsa Drillers News Release
The Tulsa Drillers snapped a four-game losing streak Sunday evening in San Antonio with a 6-2 victory over the Missions. Starting pitcher Jeremy Kehrt worked five solid innings and the Tulsa bullpen held the Missions scoreless over the final four frames to help record the win.
Jarek Cunningham helped to give Kehrt an early lead in the second inning. Cunningham led off with a double and eventually scored the game's first run on a balk.
The Drillers increased the lead to 2-0 with another run in fourth. Yadir Drake drew a leadoff walk and moved to third on a double by Lars Anderson. After Cunningham struck out, Drake came home on an infield groundout by Brandon Trinkwon.
The Missions cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth when Diego Goris doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Hunter Renfroe.
San Antonio tied the game with another run in the fifth as Taylor Lindsey doubled and scored on a base hit by Adolfo Reina.
Tulsa offered an immediate response with three runs in the top of the sixth. The big inning began with a walk to Lars Anderson and a base hit by Trinkwon. Ali Solis doubled home both runners before scoring himself on a double by Adam Law.
Drake completed the game's scoring when he singled in the seventh and eventually scored on another double by Cunningham that made it 6-2.
Kehrt was charged with two runs in his five innings of work, but only one was earned. He surrendered three hits and did not issue a walk. The victory improved his record to 5-6.
Jorge De Leon allowed three hits but no runs in two relief innings, and Ramon Benjamin retired all six batters he faced over the final two innings to close out the win.
The trio of Tulsa pitchers did not issue a walk over the entire nine innings.
Offensively, the Drillers had ten hits with Cunningham and Torreyes collecting two each.
Tulsa was without the services of catcher Kyle Farmer for the second straight day. Farmer played for the USA Sunday in the Futures Games, going 0-2 while catching four innings. Ex-Drillers pitcher Juan Gonzalez was a member of the World Team and struck out both batters he faced in the contest that the USA won 10-1.
The Drillers will close out their six-game road trip to Texas Monday morning against the Missions. The pitching matchup will feature Jharel Cotton (3-0, 1.44 ERA) against James Needy (1-0, 0.00 ERA). Starting time in San Antonio is scheduled for 11:05AM.
