Michael Williamson Leaves Position at D.C. United

Washington, D.C. (February 28, 2014) - D.C. United has announced that Chief Operating Officer and former Chief Financial Officer Michael Williamson will move on from his position effective February 28. Williamson will relocate to Italy, where he will take on the CFO role for the Serie A club F.C. Internazionale Milano, a team also owned by D.C. United co-owner Erick Thohir.

"We are grateful for Michael's dedication to D.C. United, and I know he has the right skills and expertise for Inter Milan," said D.C. United co-owner Jason Levien. "He will strengthen the relationship between two extraordinary soccer clubs in Milan and the District of Columbia."

"I'm honored by the chance to continue working closely with Erick Thohir while keeping ties with D.C. United during this exciting time," said Williamson of the move. "I look forward to great achievements on and off the field from both clubs in the future."

Thohir became President of Inter Milan on November 15, 2013, and D.C. United and Inter Milan announced the formation of a strategic partnership on December 2, 2013. Thohir and Levien were introduced as D.C. United co-owners on July 10, 2012.

During Williamson's tenure with the Black-and-Red, the club undertook numerous initiatives to strengthen its financial foundation, improve fan engagement, and strategically position itself for a new stadium in the District of Columbia. Williamson has lead the growth and investment in the club that has allowed for the creation and strengthening of strategic partnerships with District businesses and community organizations, reestablished the club's commitment of excellence in customer service to its fans, saw the capturing of the club's 13th championship, developed a committed and energetic work force, and most recently oversaw the announcement of the club's new jersey deal.

"Michael's commitment and expertise have been invaluable, and I'm certain we will be able to rely on him during this period of transition," stated Levien. "The future for D.C. United is brighter because of him."
