Buffalo, NY - The Syracuse Mets lost to the Buffalo Bisons, 9-3, on Saturday night at Sahlen Field. The Mets left seven runners on base and went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
Buffalo (42-38) started the scoring with a four spot in the bottom of the second inning. Patrick Kivlehan walked, and two batters later, Richard Ureña doubled to score the game's first run. From there, Reese McGuire and Andy Burns hit back-to-back home runs to score three more runs and give the Herd a 4-0 lead.
Syracuse (39-42) scored it's first run in the top of the fourth. Dilson Herrera doubled with one out, and René Rivera singled him home with two outs to make the score 4-1.
The Bisons added three more runs in the sixth. Burns got a hold of his second home run of the day and eighth of the season to push the lead to 5-1. Alen Hanson and Bo Bichette both followed with walks, placing runners at first and second base for Socrates Brito who tripled, scoring both runners for a six-run advantage, 7-1.
Buffalo extended its lead in the seventh. Kivlehan led off with a triple and scored on a Jordan Patterson single to make it an 8-1 ballgame. Patterson advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a fly out to center field, and scored on a McGuire sacrifice fly to put the Bisons up 9-1.
The Mets scored a run in the eighth and one in the ninth thanks to home runs. Grégor Blanco led off the eighth inning with a homer over the right-field wall to trim the deficit to 9-2. Then, Rivera crushed a ball over the center-field wall to lead off the ninth inning to bring the final margin to six, 9-3.
Syracuse and Buffalo conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon. RHP Walker Lockett will be on the mound for the Mets opposite RHP Conor Fisk for the Bisons. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
