
Foltynewicz Twirls Gem as Stripers Beat Indianapolis

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Mike Foltynewicz pitched 7.2 innings of two-run baseball and struck out eight to lead the Gwinnett Stripers (45-35) to a 5-2 victory over the Indianapolis Indians (41-38) on Saturday night at Coolray Field.
Scoring Recap: Gwinnett took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Jack Lopez reached on a hit-by-pitch and came in to score on a double play. In the top of the fifth, the Indians went ahead 2-1 as Trayvon Robinson doubled home Will Craig and later scored on a wild pitch by Foltynewicz. The Stripers regained the lead at 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth as a throwing error by Indianapolis third baseman Kevin Kramer allowed Lopez and Ryan LaMarre to score. Jonathan Morales hit an RBI single for a 4-2 lead in the seventh, and Luis Marte added an RBI double for a 5-2 lead in the eighth.
Stripers Stats: Foltynewicz (W, 2-1) allowed five hits and a walk over his 7.2 two-run innings, exiting with 105 pitches (71 strikes). Dan Winkler (S, 2) stranded three inherited runners for Foltynewicz in the eighth and pitched a scoreless ninth. Offensively, Marte went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Morales went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and LaMarre went 2-for-5 with two runs.
Indians Stats: Starter Mitch Keller (L, 6-2) worked 5.0 innings and yielded three runs (one earned) on six hits. Robinson went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Quote: "Everything was working today, it was a solid performance," Foltynewicz said. "I'm glad I had a couple of long innings and was able to battle."
Postgame Notes: LaMarre posted his sixth multi-hit effort in his last nine games since June 19. Rafael Ortega went 1-for-3 and has hit safely in 31 of his last 35 games dating back to May 18. The Stripers improved to 6-17 in games without a home run this season.
