SATURDAY IN THE PARK: The Louisville Bats or 'Los Murciélagos' and Columbus Clippers 'Los Veleros' continue their three-game series with a Saturday night matchup at Louisville Slugger Field. Last night, Columbus took the opener by a 6-3 score, extending their winning streak against Louisville to 3 games after the Bats took 3 of the previous 4 matchups. Tonight, right-hander Lucas Sims makes his first start in 9 days as the Bats look to snap a 9-game losing streak.
AGAINST COLUMBUS: The Bats and Clippers meet this series for the first time in over 2 months, when they played a four-game series from April 15-18. Starting this past Friday night, the teams will face each other in 7 of their 10 games leading into the All-Star break. While Louisville is 3-5 against Columbus on the season, the Bats have actually outscored the Clip Show, 40-38, in the 8 matchups.
AQUINO'S FIRST 50 GAMES: Right fielder Aristides Aquino played his 50th game at the Triple-A level with Louisville on Friday night, currently leading the team with 17 home runs. His 17 roundtrippers are the second-most in RiverBats/Bats history through a player's first 50 games with the club, trailing only Adam Dunn's 18 home runs that he hit over his first 50 apps from May 17-July 13, 2001.
FIVE DOUBLES: Louisville recorded 5 doubles as a team last night, tying their season-high. Scott Schebler, Josh VanMeter, Sherman Johnson, Nick Longhi and Brian O'Grady each contributed a two-bagger, making it the fourth time this season that LOU's notched 5 in a game, and the first time since one week ago today in game 2 of a doubleheader at Charlotte.
A MONTH TO FORGET: The Bats are 5-21 (.192) in the month of June, in danger of their worst calendar month by winning percentage in franchise history. With 2 games left against Columbus to finish out the month, Louisville will need to win both games to avoid setting a new record:
Month Record Winning Pct.
June 2019* 5-21 .192
July 1991 7-22 .241
May 2018 8-22 .267
HAPPY BIRTHDAYS: Louisville Bats great and current Billings Mustangs bench coach Hernan Iribarren celebrates his 35th birthday today, while Reds center fielder Nick Senzel celebrates his 24th. The pair were teammates for the 2018 Bats, and appeared in 20 games together last season, last on June 22 when Iribarren pinch hit for an injured Senzel.
