Brockton Rox News Release
Ottawa, ON (August 9, 2008) - The Brockton Rox picked up a second consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon, knocking off the Ottawa Rapidz 4-1 behind a strong start by rookie RHP Rony Mercado who won his professional debut.
Brockton scored all four of its runs with two outs in an inning, spurred first by RF Eugene Julien who drove in 3B Phillip Cuadrado with a two-out double in the second inning which gave the Rox a lead they would not relinquish. The Rox added two more runs in the fifth inning with three straight two-out singles and a little help from the Ottawa defense on a throwing error by catcher Kyle Geiger. Julien was involved in the final tally of the game for Brockton when he stole home on a successful double-steal with two outs.
Ottawa scored its only run off of RHP Mike Smith who worked two innings in relief. RHP Matt Zachary pitched a scoreless eighth inning, and RHP Jerry Dunn picked up his 17th save of the year with a scoreless ninth inning.
Brockton and Ottawa finish the series on Sunday afternoon as RHP Stevie Delabar gets the nod for the Rox against LHP Fraser Robinson of the Rapidz. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM.
