Atlantic City Surf News Release
Atlantic City, N.J. - 3B Eddie Kim went 3-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI in helping the Atlantic City Surf to a 10-3 victory over the Nashua Pride in a Can-Am League affair at Bernie Robbins Stadium on Saturday evening.
Nashua (12-14) drew first blood with DH Ismael Castro's first-inning RBI double down the line, but the Surf took a lead they would not relinquish in the bottom half of the frame, on DH Clyde Williams' RBI single, an RBI double from Kim, and a run-scoring groundout by RF Jason Hurst. Atlantic City 3B Gil Zayas' solo home run to left in the second inning made it a 4-1 game.
After the Pride added an unearned run in the third, the Surf (17-8) scored in the fifth on Kim's sacrifice fly. Atlantic City then exploded for five runs in the sixth; after SS Anthony Granato blasted a two-run home run, Kim doubled in a run down the right field line, before scoring on a throwing error by Nashua SS Sandy Almonte. C William Plaza then drove in the final tally of the inning with a two-out single to left-center, bringing home CF Josh Burrus and extending the Atlantic City lead to 10-2.
Nashua completed the scoring on the evening with an RBI single by 1B Bryan Duplissie in the seventh.
After being roughed up in his previous appearance against Worcester on Monday, Surf starter Brian Rodaway (9-6) came back with a solid outing, giving up two earned runs on seven hits in eight innings of work, striking out eight, to earn the victory. Isaac Burkett (3-3) was encumbered with the loss for the Pride, allowing seven runs in five and two-thirds, fanning four.
The first four hitters in the Surf's lineup combined to go 9-for-18 on the evening. Granato, LF Joe Burke and Williams each had a pair of hits to add to Kim's trio of doubles. Plaza and Zayas also had two hits apiece. For Nashua, Castro, Duplissie and RF Vinny Pennell had two-hit evenings.
The victory improves the Surf's record to 8-1 on the season against the Pride. With the five sixth-inning runs, Atlantic City has scored more runs in the sixth inning this season (56) than in any other inning.
The two teams meet for the final game of the series on Sunday evening at 7:05 p.m. Atlantic City's J.C. Huguet (8-4) will attempt to outduel Nashua's Matt O'Brien (1-0).
