(OTTAWA, ON) Saturday, August 9, 2008 - After losing the first game of the best of three series, the Rapidz looked to even the series against Brockton Saturday afternoon. Despite a great effort from Ottawa starter Mike Kusiewicz, the Rapidz lost the second game of the three games series against Brockton 4-1.
Mike Kusiewicz (2-7) pitched seven strong innings allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits while walking one and striking out five. Outdueling Kusiewicz was Rox pitcher Rony Mercado (1-0) who made his first professional start pitching five scoreless innings allowing only three hits and two walks while striking out three. Gerald Dunn came in and pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 17th save of the season.
The visiting Rox took an early 1-0 lead scoring a run in the top of the second thanks to doubles by Phillip Cuadrado and Eugene Julien.
The Rox hit three consecutive doubles, earned a walk and forced an error from catcher Kyle Geiger to score two runs in the top of the fifth. The Rox added another in the sixth after executing a double-steal to perfection to take a 4-0 lead.
The Rapidz got on the board, breaking the Rox's shutout in the bottom of the sixth. Jabe Bergeron scored from second base on an RBI single by Pete Pirman to cut the Rox lead to 4-1 and bringing the crowd of 1,986 at Rapidz Stadium to their feet.
Tomorrow's final game of the series will feature Arnprior, ON-native Fraser Robinson (3-6, 5.30 ERA) against Steve Delabar (3-3, 3.11 ERA) for the Rox, taking place at 1:05pm. Tomorrow will also be "Ottawa Food Bank" at Rapidz Stadium where every fan who brings a non-perishable food item can get in for $4.
