
Sussex cruises to 8-2 victory

AUGUSTA, N.J. - The Sussex Skyhawks pounded out 12 hits and picked up solid pitching en route to an 8-2 victory over the New Jersey Jackals on Saturday evening at Skylands Park.
Sussex starter Matt Salvato gave up two runs on six hits over seven innings to get the win. Michael Laluna pitched two scoreless innings to finish it off for Sussex. Michael Vicaro took the loss for New Jersey.
Sussex broke a 1-1 game in the bottom of the fourth on a two run home run by second baseman Chris Brown to make it 3-1. Both teams traded runs in the fifth inning, but the Skyhawks added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh on a single by designated hitter Mario Delgado to give them a 6-2 lead.
Delgado and Brown each finished with two hits and two RBI for the Skyhawks.
The Jackals and Skyhawks return to action at Skylands Park on Sunday at 2 p.m. for the final game of the three game series.
