Memphis Wins Classic Pitchers Duel

Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Memphis, TN - Scott McGregor was strong through six innings on the hill as Memphis downed Omaha, 2-1, Tuesday night in the middle meeting of a three-game set at AutoZone Park. The Storm Chasers dipped to 41-51 and remain 5 1/2 games behind Iowa in the American Conference North Division while the Redbirds pulled to within two games of the top spot.
Brett Hayes got the scoring started with a lead off long ball in the second inning before Memphis tied the game in the third on a two-out single by Brock Peterson that plated Travis Tartamella.
Peterson and former Storm Chaser Jamie Romak, the top two home run hitters in the league, flied out to deep center field to begin the sixth against Omaha starter Chris Dwyer. However, Jermaine Curtis followed with a double and scored the game-winning run on Tommy Pham's ground-rule double.
McGregor allowed four hits, none after a lead off single in the third by Chris Getz, walked a pair, struck out three and recorded 11 ground ball outs to earn the win before Sam Freeman took over in the seventh and retired all six batters he faced to extend his scoreless innings streak to 25, a record for Redbirds relievers. Fernando Salas set down the side in order in the ninth to sew up the victory and register his second save.
Dwyer, named to the PCL All-Star team earlier in the day, suffered the hard luck loss after he yielded six hits while walking one and recording two strikeouts over six innings. Kelvin Herrera came on to set down each of the six hitters he encountered in his more customary relief role.
The series and road trip wrap up Wednesday with a premium pitching match-up as Omaha left-hander Danny Duffy takes the mound against Memphis right-hander Michael Wacha. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
